Traceability in the world’s forests – an investment that yields returns

The demand for transparency in the timber flow is increasing rapidly. With the EU’s new Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), traceability will soon become an absolute requirement. The innovation company OTMETKA is meeting this development with groundbreaking technology that both simplifies regulatory compliance and drives the digitalization of the global forest industry.

OTMETKA’s patented traceability system ForestQR combines deep industry knowledge with technical precision. By stamping each log with an encrypted code directly at the time of harvesting, a digital “DNA” is created that follows the timber all the way through the chain and enables a high level of security for the customer. The code connects vital production data such as GPS position, wood species, dimensions, harvesting time and quality – and ensures 100 percent traceability from forest to end customer.

Data that drives value and sustainability

“Our goal is to unite all actors in the chain, from forest owners to industry and export markets, in a common information flow where reliable data strengthens both sustainability and profitability,” says Bengt Sörvik, founder and CEO of OTMETKA.

ForestQR works independently of mobile coverage and can be easily integrated into existing logistics systems via API – a digital connection that allows different systems to communicate seamlessly. The system is also compatible with other marking methods such as labels, RFID tags and color markings. Thanks to its scalability, ForestQR can be used in everything from small sawmills to large-scale mechanized timber handling worldwide.

Provides decision-making support that creates growth

Access to reliable production data opens up completely new opportunities for decision support and value optimization. When each log can be followed in an unbroken digital chain, it becomes easier to analyze environmental impact, ensure quality and increase precision in the entire logistics.

– Traceability at this level provides better decision-making support, more effective control and higher accuracy, which ultimately increases the value of each cubic meter of wood, says Bengt Sörvik.

Technology that meets the demands of the future

With ForestQR, independent certification bodies can verify compliance with international standards and the EU’s new requirements – faster, cheaper and with full transparency. The system makes it possible for the entire industry to shift up to a more sustainable, efficient and competitive future.

– We have a proven solution that can strengthen the entire forest sector. But for the potential to be realized, both courage and collaboration are required, concludes Bengt Sörvik.
