Partner Sintetic
Pioneering EU project
The Sintetic project is a ground-breaking project that aims to deliver a comprehensive data management system for the entire EU forest value chain. It includes 21 different partners from the EU and has a budget of approximately 9 million euros. When the project ends in 2027, the system will be able to track the entire forest value chain – trees, logs and boards – using five different but integrated tracking systems.
Complete digital traceability system
The core objective of Sintetic is to set up and demonstrate a traceability system for trees, logs and boards based on information and communication technology, ICT. The solution must be reliable, highly precise and cost-effective. Specific goals are:
- Achieve a higher value recovery of timber assortments from existing forest resources
- Increase the overall efficiency of the timber supply chain
- Provide a greater competitive advantage of the EU forest industry
- Increase of the EU forested area under active management
- Increase both the timber value, the resilience and the ecosystem services provided
- Tackle illegal logging and the related timber trade
- Facilitate a homogeneous and widespread uptake of the digital technologies in the forestry sector
Unique ID creates many possibilities
To succeed, the system will be based on a set of hardware and applications designed to generate a unique ID physically attached to each item and digitally transmitted to a central Geodatabase.
The database will then relate each ID to the data produced along the entire supply chain – from the forest inventory to the final sawnwood products. I will allow to relate yield and quality output of any process in the value chain with all the previous steps, including historical climate data, silvicultural treatments, and forest stand descriptors.
Horizon Europe finances
The project has received funding from the European Union´s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme grant agreement No 101082051.
